On February 15, 2023, six national aging organizations, including ADvancing States, sent a letter to the director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, encouraging the Administration to see a permanent nominee installed as the Assistant Secretary on Aging & Administrator of ACL. Specifically, the national organizations encouraged the Administration to consider current Acting Assistant Secretary on Aging and ACL Administrator Alison Barkoff as the permanent nominee. Alison has a strong and established track record on issues related to community living and has been an impressive, collaborative leader on a range of important aging and disability issues in her Acting capacity for the last two years. In the next two years, it will be paramount to the lives of older adults and individuals with disabilities to have a Senate confirmed nominee in place at ACL to fully exercise the leadership needed to maximize the department’s mission.
